Hidden Rome

Rome is a city lived by infinite eras, a guardian of traces and legacy that are still an important part of the daily life of the Romans and that first-time travelers may not know. For this reason, I bring you here some small treasures that you can easily discover on your next visit to Rome.

The little house of the Owls”- Casina delle Civette

A delightful Art Nouveau house of the Torlonia family, initially it was a Swiss hut, with the sole purpose of being a place of relaxation and escape for Prince Giovanni Torlonia JR. A small structure that seems to have come out of a book of fairy tales, which houses a precious museum of Art Nouveau works and exhibitions.

Church of Sant’Ignazio Loyola

This place of prayer is particularly famous for the works of Andrea Pozzo who, called to make up for the lack of a real dome, painted a very realistic one, which captures the attention of the eye for its three-dimensional appearance, and guides it towards the nave, where the viewer will be enchanted by the frescoes of the same artist: two temples, masterfully reproduced, one inside the other, that give an illusion of an infinite sky. The fresco can be observed even more clearly thanks to a mirror on the floor that reflects the work. The church is located in a very central area, between Via del Corso and the Pantheon.

Passeggiata del Gelsomino

A truly unique and romantic walk. In fact, at the end of Platform 1 of the San Pietro Station, a short path begins, and it leads to the Rampa Aurelia, walking along this path you can enjoy a particularly suggestive view of the Dome of San Pietro. The name comes from Valle del Gelsmino, which once extended from the Vatican up to the Janiculum.

Palazzo Zuccari

Its name comes from the architect and original owner, Federico Zuccari, who built it in 1590.Today inside is the Biblioteca Hertziana, a very important center for the study of Italian art. Palazzo Zuccari is known to most as the House of Monsters, due to the grotesque and monstrous decorations desired by the architect. On the library's website it is possible to book guided tours inside, otherwise the entrance is reserved only for scholars and researchers for the Art History.
